Experimental Jazz concert at FB Gallery, Sunday, Sept. 9 at 8pm:

British jazz/free-improvising vocalist Phil Minton’s only performance in New York!
Minton began playing in jazz bands in the late ’50s. Late his specialty became literary texts: he has sung lyrics by Daniil Kharms and Joseph Brodsky and James Joyce among others.
He is perhaps best known, however, for his completely free-form work, which involves “extended techniques” that are extremely unsettling. His vocals often include the sounds of retching, burping, screaming, and gasping, as well as childlike muttering, whining, crying and humming; he also has an ability to distort his vocal cords to produce two notes at once.
As an improviser, Minton has toured throughout the world, working with a great many creative musicians, including Peter Brötzmann, Fred Frith, John Butcher, and Derek Bailey’s Company

Rare appearance in US by German trumpeter Axel Dörner who developed one of the most unique voices in free improvisation.
He established a completely different language for the trumpet in the late ‘90s, starting anew by focusing on the sound of his breath. With enough amplification, the most microscopic gestures sound like electronic flurries.

A native of Korea, Okkyung Lee has been developing her own voice in a contemporary cello performance, improvisation and composition. 
With her solid classical training as a foundation, she incorporates jazz, sounds, korean traditional music, and noise with extended techniques to create her unique blend of music.
Since 2000, she has performed and recorded with numerous artists such as Laurie Anderson, Carla Bozulich, Evan Parker and John Zorn to name a few.

C. (Chih-Fu) Spencer Yeh was born in Taipei, Taiwan and is now based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. 
Yeh is active both as a solo and ensemble artist, as well as with his primary ‘organized sound’ project, Burning Star Core. As an improviser, Yeh has focused on developing a personal vocabulary using violin, voice, and electronics. As a sound organizer/composer, Yeh works with all aspects available surrounding a work, aurally and physically, as elements key to the cumulative experience. He is concerned not only with the sensual aspects of sound, but the gestural qualities as well. Yeh has performed alongside and collaborated with a deep and ever-growing list of artists and groups including Tony Conrad, Evan Parker, Thurston Moore and many others, and has performed across the U.S.A. and Europe in a variety of settings and festivals.

FB Gallery is pleased to present Illuminati, featuring the official debut of the latest Lightbodies by contemporary artist Kilu. The solo exhibition runs June 6 through June 12 with an opening reception June 6th, 6-8pm.
Kilu’s artistic practice incorporates light as both the source material and focus of his work. He explores the intangible medium by transforming and combining objects into sculptures, which manipulate, capture and absorb the intrinsic values of light.
The Illuminati installation presents the latest Lightbodies — life-size human shapes, in both idealized male and female forms. These sculptures are coated with painterly gestures including bold colors, expressive details, and varying textures such as diamond dust. Expressive beings though inherently inanimate, the Lightbodies reflect more than light.
Kilu relocated from Switzerland to New York in 2006 after winning The Chelsea International Fine Art Competition. His accomplishments also include winning The Healing Power of Art award in 2007, as well as being exhibited in several solo and group shows in New York.
